Retrofit steam boiler Perlen Papier

About the project

Perlen Papier AG, a leading family-owned company and Switzerland's number one manufacturer of high-quality magazine and newsprint paper, has completely renovated its steam boiler, which had been out of service for around ten years, and put it back into operation.

Rey Technology carried out the retrofit of the steam boiler and acted as the general contractor (GC), coordinating the subcontractors. The refurbishment involved several important steps. First, all the necessary documents to ensure functionality were obtained, including a risk analysis and SIL classification. The flue gas ducting was fundamentally rebuilt by dismantling the existing catalyst and adapting the turning chambers to route the flue gases through the classic 3-pass boiler.

In addition, the old smooth-tube Eco was replaced by a new Eco from Ecotherm, which led to a reduction in exhaust gas losses. The flue pipes in the third pass were replaced, including the necessary metalwork and welding, as well as X-ray inspections and pressure tests. All boiler fittings and seals were checked or replaced. The old burner was replaced by a modern Saacke burner with electronic control. In addition, a new gas line and feed line were installed.

The excellent cooperation with the Perlen Papier project team contributed significantly to the success of the project. Thanks to careful planning and implementation, the steam boiler was able to be put back into operation on schedule. This represents a significant advance for steam production at Perlen Papier and underlines the company's innovative strength and ecological responsibility.

Their high level of expertise was particularly helpful in planning and developing the individual steps, including compliance with environmental aspects such as flue gas emissions, operational safety, and plant safety.
