About the project

Energy shortage – not with us! With a comprehensive retrofit of its plant control system, the Mühle Weinfelden hydroelectric power plant is helping to combat the impending energy shortage.

The hydroelectric power of the Thur river near Weinfelden is used to generate electricity in the small hydroelectric power plants in Model, Mühle, and Widen. A three-field weir system dams the Thur above the Weinfelden-Rothenhausen road bridge and directs a maximum water volume of 22 m3/s into an upper water channel, which divides after around 150 m into the factory channel (Model hydroelectric power plant) and the mill channel (Mühle hydroelectric power plant).

Wasserkraft Weinfelden AG was faced with the challenge that operational safety was no longer guaranteed by the old control system. In order to ensure the availability of the plant, it was decided to retrofit the control system and the mechanical components.

Rey Technology was commissioned to implement the retrofit of the control system. The existing five switch cabinet panels were replaced with new ones. The new PLC took over all control and regulation functions. Thanks to joint planning with esolva AG, the implementation was completed on schedule and with minimal downtime.

Energy generation is guaranteed for the next few decades thanks to the use of state-of-the-art control hardware. Wasserkraft Weinfelden AG can now rely on high availability of the power plant. Thanks to the customized solution, based on the principle of everything from a single source and after a short conversion period, the customer now has a long-term and highly available plant.
