About the project
Zimmer Biomet focuses its products and procedures on the relief and treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders and has achieved a leading position in the industry.
Zimmer Biomet's high-quality implants are committed to the highest standards of patient safety and quality. These high standards prompted them to retrofit a core part of their production, the ultrasonic cleaning system. The ultrasonic cleaning system is used for approximately 75% of all implants in the final cleaning process and is the last cleaning stage before the implants are transferred to the clean room.
After a total of 10 washing steps, the implants must be rinsed with ultrapure water in the fine cleaning system and dried with clean air. The implants are then transferred directly to the clean room (ISO class 6) via a roller conveyor and packaged there under clean room conditions.
In order to maintain high production availability, it was decided to carry out the retrofit over the Christmas holidays in 2020. The short time frame required intensive planning and smooth implementation by all parties involved, while complying with FDA guidelines. Together with Siemens Switzerland, the retrofit was completed on schedule and to the complete satisfaction of Zimmer Biomet.
